Every year around July, my phone fills up with the same question from relatives: “Which laptop should we buy for college? Budget is 50k.” And every year, I resist naming a specific model. Not to be mysterious – it’s because models change every few months, and prices jump around with every sale. What doesn’t change … Read more
Confession time. For years, my “strong” password was my nickname, my birth year and an exclamation mark. I used it on Gmail, Facebook, two shopping sites and a random forum I joined in 2012. When that forum got hacked, I spent a very stressful weekend changing everything. If any part of that sounds familiar, don’t … Read more
Google Lens is one of those features sitting quietly on almost every Android phone, and most people only use it to scan a QR code or figure out a plant in their balcony. Which is a shame, because it can do a lot more. I use it almost daily – to copy text from a … Read more
My sister handed her 10-year-old a phone during online classes and, for a while, it was fine. Then one day she found him at 1 AM watching YouTube Shorts under the blanket, phone brightness on max. That’s when she called me asking about “that Google parent app”. That app is Google Family Link, and it’s … Read more
Every family has that debate. “PhonePe is faster.” “No, Google Pay is safer.” “Paytm has better cashback.” Someone always has a story about a payment that got stuck on one app and went through instantly on another. Last month, an uncle in our apartment WhatsApp group forwarded a file called “Traffic_Challan.apk”. Two people installed it. One of them lost money from his bank account the same evening. That’s the sad part – most dangerous apps don’t look dangerous. They look like a bill payment app, a “PDF scanner”, or a free version … Read more
The first AI image I ever made was “a cat drinking chai at a Hyderabad Irani café, oil painting”. It came out with six fingers on the cat’s paw and the cup floating in mid-air. I loved it anyway. AI image tools have gotten much better since then, and many of them are free to … Read more
My cousin wanted an iPhone but didn’t want to spend new-iPhone money. So she bought a refurbished one. It’s been great. My college friend did the same with an Android flagship from a random Instagram seller. It died in four months, and the “warranty” phone number stopped picking up. Same idea, very different results. Refurbished … Read more
“Which is better, Jio 5G or Airtel 5G?” is one of those questions where everybody has a strong opinion, and everybody is right – for their own street. That’s the honest truth about mobile networks. Speed depends heavily on where you are, how many people are around, and even which side of the building you’re … Read more
I’ve made a lot of beautiful study timetables in my life. Colour-coded, perfectly divided into 30-minute blocks, stuck on the wall above my desk. I followed most of them for about three days. The problem was never the timetable. It was that I planned for a version of me that didn’t exist – one who … Read more
